Product Description

This three-level wooden play set kit contains pre-cut lumber, two sling-seat swings, one ring/trapeze combo, rock climbing wall, climbing rope, Alpine Wave Slide, Tunnel Twister Slide, two-bench picnic table, two safety handles, double-sided magnetic chalk board, three peek-a-boo windows, gabled wooden roof and all necessary hardware and instructions. The swing chains are rubber coated for comfort and safety. When built, this set has one large and two small upper level play decks and an under deck picnic table. It can accommodate up to 15 children. Swings have a maximum weight of 115lbs. and both slides have a maximum weight of 250lbs.

Skills

  • Children receive proprioceptive input as they climb the rock wall.
  • Children receive vestibular input from the swings and slides.
  • Balance, balance reaction and core strength are worked on when children sit and slide down the slides or swing on the swings.

Play Ideas

  • Use highly tactile or audible items to slide down the slide such as a ball with an internal chime.
  • Explore echo sounds by having the child talk, yell, sing or make noises as he slides down the Tunnel Slide.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Demonstrate how to swing and pump your legs. Note: the swings have a maximum weight of 115lbs. Heavy duty swings are available and sold separately that hold a maximum weight of 350lbs.
  • Use verbal cues such as, “In,” and “Out” or “Forward,” and “Backward” to help children remember how to move their legs to pump and swing.
  • Give children a beginning push on the swing to get them moving.

Physical 3

Skills

  • Eye-hand and eye-foot coordination, foot placement, weight shifting and whole body strength are used while climbing the rock wall.
  • Children receive vestibular input from the swings and slides.
  • Gross motor skills are strengthened during active play on this set. Climbing from one deck to the next enables children to use large high steps and leg strength to ascend to the next level.

Play Ideas

  • Have two children at opposite ends of the Alpine Wave Slide roll a ball back and forth to one another. If one of the children is in a wheelchair, find the most comfortable position next to the slide to catch the ball.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Change the sling seat swing to another design (Alternative swings sold separately).

Skills

  • Children learn to negotiate and compromise while playing with others in a shared play space.
  • Awareness of others can be practiced as children make sure everyone is clear of the slide before sliding down or make sure to give the swings plenty of room when walking in front of them while in use.
  • Parallel play, cooperative play and social interaction can all be facilitated while building confidence. 

Play Ideas

  • Use chalk to decorate the outside or inside of the clubhouse independently or with others.
  • Create pretend play scenarios for kids to use the clubhouse as a restaurant, shopping mall or school. 

Adaptation Ideas

  • Tape picture cues of stop signs at the bottom of the slide or other locations on the play set to enforce direction.
